Farewell Dinner For Nigeria’s Consul General In New York

New York, USA: Over the weekend, Nigerian organizations in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut tri-state area held a farewell Dinner in honor of the outgoing Consul General of Nigeria Ambassador Habib Baba Habu for his dedicated and fruitful service. The event which took place at the Amarachi Prime in Brooklyn New York was planned and organized by the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) and the Nigeria Independence Day Committee (NIDC).

In attendance were representatives of several organizations that make up OAN and NIDC as well as other Nigerians who were eager to express their appreciation to Consul General/Ambassador Habu who was showered with accolades for making significant difference during his short tenure at the Nigerian Consulate in New York. Speaking while presenting an award trophy to the Consul General on behalf of OAN and NIDC, the president of OAN, Mr. Solomon Bakare echoed the general comments and feelings of those in attendance, praising the Consul General for operating an open-door policy, introducing efficient service at the consulate, and showing genuine interest in the plight of Nigerians regardless of their tribe, religion, or economic background.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Representatives of various organizations arrived in time at the Amarachi Prime. The Consul General was one of the first persons to arrive. Shortly after, Rev. Dr. Abel Famubode led the opening prayers which was followed by the Muslim opening prayer led by Alhaji Raheem Banire. The Chairman and coordinator of NIDC and OAN, Olayinka Dan Salami Esq., then gave the opening remarks and invited organization representatives in attendance to make their comments. After that the Consul General was awarded with a trophy of appreciation presented by President of OAN - Solomon Bakare, and Chairman of the Governmental Committee, Mr. Mike Adeniyi on behalf of the organizations in appreciation of the Consul General's commendable service. The Consul General accepted the award and made a brief acceptance and appreciation speech. Dinner was served and the even formally closed with prayers led by elders from both the Christian and Muslim communities.
