The Nigeria Centenary Awards (NCUSA)

The US Edition of the Nigeria Centenary Awards (NCUSA) takes place in New York, September 26th – 27th, 2014

August 21, 2014 – New York, NY – As Nigeria marks 100 years as a nation, Nigerians in the US will be celebrating this milestone with a 2-day line up of centenary events scheduled to take place in New York City from September 26th – 27th, 2014.

The event line up kicks off on Friday, September 26, 2014 with panel sessions and a keynote address, followed by the official centenary awards ceremony on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The overall goal of the Nigeria Centenary US Awards (NCUSA) is to recognize and acknowledge Nigerians in the US – individuals, charity organizations, professional associations etc. – who help to put a positive light on the nation. Through contributions to their communities (both here in the US and back home in Nigeria), achievements in their fields, causes they champion for the betterment of the greater good, and their general desire for the growth and advancement of Nigeria backed with actions and sacrifices, these people make us proud to be Nigerians; and for this they will be celebrated.

In line with the centenary mark, 100 awards for Outstanding Nigerian in the US will be handed out across the following categories – Media/Entertainment, Charity Organizations, Science and Technology, Entrepreneurship, Youth/Women Empowerment, Sports, and Public Service. Nominations are still being accepted via the form on the NCUSA site: http://www.nigeriacentenaryusa.com/nominate-here. List of award recipients and more event details will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Early-bird tickets for the award ceremony are now available at https://nigeriacentenaryusa.eventbrite.com for a limited time. The NCUSA is endorsed and supported by the Consulate General of Nigeria here in New York, and is organized by a committee of well-meaning Nigerians.  Current media partners for the NCUSA include Applause Africa, Africa.com, African Events and Sahara TV.
