Despite billions of dollars in development assistance, many Africans face poverty and lack of economic opportunity. Clearly, policies have failed the people. Using the work of Daniel Bromley, Dr. Marty Rowland charts the failure of aid to achieve the desired results and crafts a framework likely to lead to long-lasting economic growth that actually improves the quality of life of the people.

Marty Rowland studied economics under Daniel W. Bromley, emeritus professor of applied economics at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and used the theories of Bromley and Elinor Ostrom on common pool resource management systems. A Georgist since his arrival in NYC in 2009, Marty is active in presenting his ideas – most recently at the John Jay College’s Left Forum. His day job is with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation as Senior Environmental Engineer. Marty is a licensed professional engineer, Certified Passive House Designer, and designer of permaculture systems.
