HOW IT HAPPENED: The 4-day event kicked off with the welcome party on Thursday. On Friday the culture night was held and the highlight was the Mister Nigeria and Miss Nigeria Independence competitions. When it was over, the Samson Osunleti and Prosper Japheth were elected Mister / Miss Nigerian Independence 2014 respectively. On Saturday the streets of New York City were painted green-white-green by Nigerians and other supporters including Africans and Americans alike who wore green-white-green attires and proudly waved their Nigerian flags.  Traffic was restricted by the City of New York from 54th street to 44th street in Manhattan to allow the Nigerians and their supporters celebrate and display their pride and honor on Nigeria's 54th independence.  At the end of the parade, the event  moved to the park for the festival celebrations where there were cultural performances and assortments of Nigerian dishes and wares for the thousands of attendees to enjoy. Not even the temperate rain was able to dampen the high spirits of the Nigerians known for their abilities to party and celebrate. In the end it was another successful event with well-behaved attendees. Again Nigerians pulled it off and made Africans proud in the USA. Congratulations to the organizers Independence Parade Committee of Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN), and congratulations to Nigeria. SEE PARADE VIDEOS.
