Sullivan Summit Dinner Honors Outstanding Individuals, June 17, 2004

Washington, DC: On June 17, 2004, 1500 people attended a Black Tie Gala Celebration to honor individuals who have defied the odds to make significant contributions in society, not only in America, but worldwide.

The theme and tenor for the evening was focused around Leon Sullivan™s 1997 historic Harare Summit Closing Address titled "We See No Alps." In this inspiring address, Sullivan focuses our attention on how success can only be achieved by overcoming seemingly insurmountable difficulties. The Summit Dinner was held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 in Washington, DC at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

Condoleezza Rice was honored for her courageous leadership and fierce commitment to her ideals and principles. According to Ambassador Andrew Young, Chairman of the event, Dr. Sullivan called us to show great leadership; this is the ultimate focus of the Awards Dinner on June 17th "to honor those who defy great odds and disregard obstacles along their path. Condoleezza Rice has defied so many odds to become the most powerful African-American woman in history. We acknowledge her for the contributions she continues to make."
