AIT over the weekend launched a new show Sana’a in Washington D.C. The event, which gave a select audience a sneak preview of what is to come, took place at the Nigerian Embassy. Contributing correspondent covered the event. His report is filed from our studios.
The maiden show focuses on a Nigerian Architect Adebola Ajayi and Alice Coles and their works in rebuilding an impoverished community in Bayview Virginia.
Alice Coles, Executive Director of Bayview Citizens for social justice spoke at the premier screening of Sana’a the new human interest program starting on AIT saying that we can all make a difference by using our gifts and talents to help humanity.
Producer of the show, AIT’s Oyiza Adaba and co-producer Damian Chuirco while emphasizing the role of the media in the nation’s image building, explained the concept of the show, saying that it focuses on human angle stories about individuals of African descent that have made major impact on the lives of individuals, their communities and their respective homelands, thereby encouraging viewers on the virtues of hard work, and establishing role models,
Sana’a is a word in Hausa language which is spoken in some parts of West Africa. Directly translated Sana’a means ‘Profession’ or 'Calling'. It is non-political and does not seek to promote individual ideas or beliefs.
Nigeria’s ambassador to the US, Prof. George Obiozor stressed the importance of Nigerian companies emulating steps taken by AIT to partner with the Nigerian Embassy in promoting the country’s image.
A visibly overwhelmed Ajayi described his feelings, saying that of all the on the recognition given to his works, AIT’s was the most important to him as he it came from his country.
Guests at the event described the production as inspiring and impressive.
The on-air launch of Sana’a on AIT was on November 6, 2004
