AllAfricaRadio (WPAT Radio 9.30AM) host African Film Company - Film Producers and Directors

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, July 2005: “Controversial” Movie “THIS AMERICA” was recently scrutinized at WPAT (9.30AM) AllAfrica Radio Show - “StraightTalk With Chika Onyeani”

It could be said that "the gloves were off the wall" last Friday when Dr. Chika Onyeani hosted the Directors/Producers (African Film Company) of the new hot flick “THIS AMERICA” on the hot seat of his new raving Radio show – "StraightTalk" with Chika Onyeani, on the AllAfricaRadio on WPAT 930-AM.

According to the producer, “StraightTalk with Chika Onyeani” on the AllAfricaRadio, was formerly known as "FireWorks with Chika Onyeani,” but later changed to “StraightTalk” following complaints that "FireWorks" was too hot. The show remains even hotter.- READ FULL TEXT BELOW

“Controversial” Movie “THIS AMERICA” scrutinized at WPAT (9.30AM) Radio Show - “StraightTalk With Chika Onyeani”

Being a live show, Writer Oliver O. Mbamara and Director Bethels Agomuoh may not have expected the nature of the barrage of questions hurled at them by listeners who kept calling even after the one-hour show was over. Coming off interviews and topics involving US Congressman, Charles Rangel and Senator Barak Obama, the guest seat of the radio show was indeed hot.

Host, Dr. Chika Onyeani who is also the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the African Suntimes, did not make things any easier for the promising filmmakers as he threw his own questions at them with pure and unbiased journalistic fervor. Citing the incident involving writer Terry McMillan and the man she married years ago, and using the notorious Green Card “Pandora Box” as his launch pad, Dr. Onyeani wondered if the film THIS AMERICA has given the INS (now known as “US Immigration Service”) a window into the lives of green card aspirants in United States.

The filmmakers (Oliver Mbamara, Bethels Agomuoh, and Felix Nnorom) held their own and pointed out that the film touches on other aspects of immigrant life beyond the green-card “Pandora box." They added that the film tells the immigrant story from two perspectives hoping that – “the would-be immigrant would be made aware of what to expect before coming overseas, while the host citizen could begin to comprehend and tolerate the immigrants’ ways of life.” The filmmakers insist that the film "THIS AMERICA" is not saying anything the US Immigration Service (USIS) doesn't know already. They continue to urge immigrants to “recognize the intelligence of the USIS. That is in fact “an essential step towards succeeding with USIS and the obtaining of immigration papers. Thinking that the USIS is that ignorant could be rather unfortunate.”

Show host, Dr. Chika Onyeani was candid to repeat that he had watched the film and that there are other aspects of the many dramas of the immigrant’s life depicted in the film, and he recommended it for listeners. “Send it to anyone who wants to come to America so they will have an idea of what is in store for them before they leave the shores of Africa to come overseas.”
“I have watched it, I liked it, I think every one should like it too,” concluded the elder Journalist and statesman who continues to champion the course of African awareness in the Diaspora.

We at AfricanEvents.com have also watched the film; we give it “FOUR STARS” and strongly recommend it.
