Oliver Oscar Mbamara
Writer, Filmmaker, Producer, Publisher

 

   Oliver Oscar Mbamara is originally from Nigeria, West Africa. After graduating in Law from the University of Lagos Nigeria and the Nigerian Law School respectively, he practiced Law in Nigeria while simultaneously engaging in arts, writing, and stage/theater performances, touring around Nigeria with a Theater troupe called “Prime Circle.” He later moved to the United States where he passed the New York Bar examination and was subsequently admitted to practice as an Attorney. He is presently a Judge with New York State Office of Administrative Hearings.

Besides his activities a trained lawyer (by Profession), Oliver is a published Writer, Poet, Actor, Filmmaker/Producer, Director, Publisher, and more. He continues to simultaneously make impact in these fields. Since 2001, when he launched his first book “Poems of Life” a few years after arriving in the United States, Oliver has successfully engaged in several other fields of creative expressions and artistry. He has directed a number of stage plays and also played lead roles in a number of stage/theater performances including New York off-Broadway shows such as Professor Chudi Uwazuruike’s “Prisoner of The Kalakiri,” and the stage recreation of Zulu Sofola’s “Wedlock of The Gods.” In 2005, Oliver teamed up with fellow Nollywood filmmakers (Bethels Agomuoh and Felix Nnorom) to produce the ground breaking African immigrant drama feature film – THIS AMERICA, which was based on a book he had earlier written and intended to be released as a novel about the African Immigrant experience titled, “CONFLICTS OF AN IMMIGRANT.” In 2007, Oliver wrote, produced, and directed the epic historical action adventure film; SLAVE WARRIOR based on true-life experiences in a typical African society during the coming of trans-Atlantic slave trade (www.SlaveWarrior.com).

Oliver has since gone ahead to write and direct (and in some cases starred) in a number of African Films such as, SPADE: THE LAST ASSIGNMENT (www.SpadeMovie.com), and STRANGER’S ARMS. He is currently wrapping up post-production on two other films: ON THE RUN AGAIN (sequel to THIS AMERICA) and THE RETURN OF SPADE (Sequel to The Last Assignment). Presently, Oliver is concluding works on a recently shot TV series titled CULTURES (www.CulturesTVSeries.com) starring a mixture of some USA and Nollywood big names such as the veteran Chika Okpala, aka: Chief Zebrudaya, alias 4:30.
