NIGERIAN LAWYERS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL BANQUET AND MERIT AWARD, MAY 2003

HOW IT HAPPENED: The event started in earnest with a cocktail. There was a procession into the Main Event Hall, where Ms. Ihenji Ugenyi led the opening prayer. The President of NLA, Shamsey Oloko, Esq. delivered the welcome address and introduced the Executive members of the Association, Board members and planning committee of the event. Hon Taofiq was given an award. There was dinner, and Mrs. Renaye Brown Cuyler introduced the keynote speaker, Honorable Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) who delivered his well-appreciated speech. Yewande Odia, Esq. then introduced Ms. Chinwe Dike, who in turn introduced the Merit Ward Recipient of the Night, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala gladly received the Award and gave a brief appreciation speech. She then opened the dance floor with the NLA President, Oloko, Esq. Ms. Ifeoma Anekwe, Association Vice President gave the vote of thanks and reminded all that the Bar was still open and free. The Audience then boogied all night. Venue was The Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, New York.
