New Jersey: Recently the 2012 edition of the Miss Africa Tri State Pageant event was held in New Jersey. The event was well attended by people and dignitaries from all walks of life. Some of the dignitaries came from as far as West Africa and South Africa. Ms. Joy Oppongwah of Ghana emerged the winner. The first runner-up was Ms. Seun Onibiyo of Nigeria, while the second runner-up was Lia Dahn of Liberia. Other categories recognized during the event were Miss Personality - Ms. Lia Dahn and Miss Photogenic - Ms. Oby Uche. Outgoing Queen was Yolanda Masinga of South Africa. The Contestants display their beauty and talents. HOW IT HAPPENED: Guests, organizers, judges, press, contestants as well as friends and relatives of the contestants started arriving around 4PM. The event kicked off proper at about 6PM with some singing and performance entertainment by guests artists including a band from West Africa. The contestants then came on stage to display their beauty through various means including introductory appearances, African attires, talent performances, African traditional wears, evening wears, display of elegance, confidence and more. In the end, Miss Joy Oppomgwah the contestant from Ghana emerged the winner. The contest was touted as one of the most fairly judged pageant in recent times - of course the team of Judges included our own Oliver O. Mbamara who actually serves formerly as an Admin Judge of New York State. Other Judges include: Summer Angel and Andrew Pappachen
Some of the dignitaries in attendance include: Hon. Barr. Yeye Olasehinde Vincete – Member House of Assembly Ondo State Nigeria. Rep. Christophe Adjovi – Government official from the Republic of Benin. The office of the Council man and newly elected congressman Donald Payne. The African Commission. All the way from South Africa the famous screenwriter of SARAFINA- Mbongeni Ngema. Attorney/Filmmaker/Actor and Judge Oliver O. Mbamara, Director Bethels Agomouh, Actress Summer Angel , Producer Moses Adedeji , Comedian Jude Away-Away, Singer Koleurz who was the MC of the event and many others. As the new Miss Africa Tri-State put it. "MISS AFRICA TRI-STATE is a pageant for all the smart beautiful kind hearted females out there who are willing to help change lives for the better!"
