Profile of Africans Positively Representing and Contributing to Africa's Image

George Quateng-Mensah

George Quateng-Mensah:  General Manager of the Liberia Agriculture Company has been captured as www.africanevents.com profile of the Month for his effort in promoting employment in war-torn Liberia.

Mr. Mensah a Ghanaian National, 52 years old is a husband of a Liberian woman, Annette, both are blessed with five children, three boys and two girls, his philosophy in life is, "there should always be a fear of God in people, people must be treated with justice, regardless of their status in society".

Mr. Mensah also believes hard work and honesty, as General manager of the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC), he hopes to carry his company, an European and Italian rubber plantation company, is making all efforts to help the Liberian government rebuild Liberian.

GEORGE QUATENG-MENSAH: HIS COMPANY, LAC HEPING TO AIDE WAR-TORN LIBERIA

Touching on the growth of the company and to help reduce Liberia's high rate of unemployment, Mensah said his plan is to increase the size of the plantation from 30,000 to 50,000 acres.

His company, LAC is currently providing free education to the children of the company's 3,500 workforce and health services. He told our Liberia Correspondent that his role model is the company's six General manager, Mr. Kenneh Gerhart, who he said during his tenure as General Manager LAC worked heart to increase the company's productivity.

He said he joined the company in 1978 and served the company upon employment as Junior Accountant from 1978 to 2002 and also worked with the company in several areas, including Internal Auditor, Budget Manager and Financial Comptroller with honesty and dedication before being appointed as General Manager of the company.

He is the tenth General Manager of the Company since it was established in 1959, his company which was hard hit during the war has bounced back rehabilitating its war-ravaged facilitates in the country.

Our Liberia Correspondent recently visited the company’s site, in Grand Bassa County and toured its damaged facilitates in the county where it was observed that this multi-million dollars company has taken the initiative to help war-victims in the country to restart their lives after their livelihood were forcibly taken away by armed fighters during the war.

This company accordingly has made substantial progress not only on its operation, but also rather on the livelihood of those people in whose area this company is located.

Due to LAC’s numerous contributions to the growth and development of Liberia, it has won our monthly profile title “INVESTMENT IN AFRICA”, according to our anchor man in Liberia, LAC is making local residents in the County to beep with smiles daily; the provision of basic social services, including education, health and job opportunities.

LAC’s modern facilitates admired by many prior to the Liberian civil war were completely damaged due to the war virtually leaving nothing “un-touched”, but since the return of the company those facilitates that were damaged have been rehabilitated, while citizens of the county are now re-employed.

The Company has constructed several educational and health institutions, and also providing benefits to its workforce, according to our correspondent, farm to market roads are being built by this company to enable citizens of the county to easily sell their produce and other basic marketing goods.

LAC like any other professional investment entity has built a cordial relationship with residents of the county where the company is stationed, “LAC has done a lot for us, especially providing health centers, schools for our children and the construction of road
in our area, we are grateful to this foreign entity”, Martha Somah a resident of the LAC community told our correspondent during his tour in the county.

“Roads constructed by LAC are far better and well laid out than those streets in Monrovia, secondly, LAC has given us employment which enable us to cater for our families and children”, Somah stressed.

LAC’s other services to its employees include the provision of 72 hours electricity and pip-bound water, employees beneficiaries, especially school going children are enjoying the comfort of riding buses to school daily.

“Our concern is not only the planting and purchasing of rubber, but rather the well-being of those employees who are making their sacrifices daily,” a senior staff told our correspondent.
