Yes, we may all have heard it, management is different from leadership; good managers are not always good leaders, and managing change or change management. But what is the good management of the leadership? Who manages the leadership? The shareholders in public traded companies, and the electorates in democratic political societies hold the power, and therefore manages the leadership. The powers of the shareholders and the electorates are based on the rule of law of individual organization, as may be stated in their constitutions, or the employment agreements/handbooks or the oat of office/positions or the policy and procedures.
In the concept of the good management of the leadership, it is not enough to be remembered as a leader of an organization if it does not make positive difference in people’s lives. Hence, the management is as good as the performance. Good management of leadership builds and preserves institutions that are necessary for the continued progressive growth of organizations irrespective of change in leadership. This is the stuff that organizations that are built to last are made of.
Organizations lacking in good management of the leadership tend to become dictatorial, breeding leaders who become illusioned by the idea that they only are capable of doing the job at hand. On the other hand, organizations that focus on progressive growth, tend to avoid personalization of the leadership with their good management of leadership strategic growth, in an effort to prevent complacency of the leadership as they continue to strive for innovative ways of solving the most pressing problems. This concept is based on the fact that individuals no matter how long they live will never complete or finish all that is possibly there to do within learning and growing organizations. Hence, the reason why organizations hire Chief Executive Officers at different points of organizational growth to do a particular job for a particular situation. For public traded companies, the power of this change lies with the shareholders and the Board, while for democratic societies; this power lies with the electorates backed by their constitution through the efforts of their elected legislators. In the public traded companies, shareholders earn this power by the monies they invested in these companies; while the electorates earn their power by virtue of being citizens through birth or other diplomatic legal means.
In progressive organizations and societies, the leadership understands the concept of good management of the leadership and who actually owns the ultimate power; hence the desire for excellency in quality leadership during their time at the leadership positions. Understanding of the good management of the leadership or the acceptance of it may be acquired by being born into societies that is educated enough in the continuity of progressive programs that accepts the concepts of the rule of laws, and the consequences of not obeying the rules and regulations of an organization.
The understanding of the true meaning of leadership as the ultimate provision of economic security, educational security, health security, and the values of equality/importance of every stakeholder/position; opportunities; fairness and community building within any organization is the key to the understanding also the true meaning of good management of the leadership, and knowing that no one person can complete the building of these institutions in his/her life-time; as situations become parallel with time. Therefore, requiring innovative ways of solving situational problems.
