Washington
DC, USA: The Celebrating African Motherhood Organization (CAM)
recently held a gala event during which it honored African Women in
the Arts. The honorees include: Singer Angelique Kidjo from Benin,
Actress Regina Askia from Nigeria, Designer Afua Sam from Ghana, and
Choreographer Raynor van der Merwe from South Africa. Our staff was
there to bring you exclusive pictures.

HOW
IT HAPPENED: It was a motherly day and the weather was in its
best nature as guests arrived for the CAM soiree. The reception hour
took place as honorees, guests, and other invitees mingled and greeted
each other while enjoying appetizers, drinks and live music. After
attendees settled down in the banquet hall, opening ceremonies were
observed and topped by a musical presentation by the African Gospel
Acapella from Liberia. There was a fashion exhibition of the works of
Designer Afua Sam and dinner was served. Host, Shawn Yancy of Fox 5 News
Anchor then the award presentations going by inviting Oliver Mbamara to
lead the night's presentations with an introduction and invitation of
Regina Askia to the podium. Other honorees (Singer Angelique Kidjo,
Designer Afua Sam, and Choreographer Raynor van der Merwe) were also
introduced and honored. During the intervals, there were performances by
various artists such as Ana Mwalagho, Chinwe Enu, and the Encore
Performing group. There was a special presentation by Dr. Chinwe Effiong
and keynote address by Ambassador Shirley Barnes. Vote of thanks was
delivered by CAM Organizers led by Keke Bongos
