Afro Heritage Venture publishes Afro Heritage magazines quarterly to educate, inform and culturally entertain the communities on the strengths, aspirations, challenges and achievements of people of African descent without prejudice. Afro Heritage Venture was founded by Ms Olutosin Mustapha to contribute her quota to community development by publishing Afro Heritage magazine and also organize innovative programs for families and communities in order to make the community of people of African descent better in New York City. She somedays works as a substitute teacher in NYC public schools and also works as an educational consultant to some providers of New York State Department of Education Supplemental Educational Services where she directly tutors the students in order for them to improve on their education and achieve their goals in life.The contributors of articles in Afro Heritage magazine are educators, writers, poets, social workers, artists, authors, cooks, and community leaders who all have a passion for contributing to community developments. The publication showcases people of African descent on a positive note as role models for the younger generation. It is in New York Public Library and used by educators to teach authentic global community studies as related to contemporary (modern) ways of life of people of African descent.
The historic event of Afro Heritage Venture Poetry Day and Essay-writing Winners celebration took place at the Spoken Words and Performing Arts Center located at 226 4th Avenue in Brooklyn on April 29th, 2006.The topic of the essay was "The African American Leader Who Inspired Me To Achieve Greatness" and the winners of the Essay-writing competitions are Eon M. Hardy Jr. (1st place), Whitney Crawford (2nd place) and Aisha Abdul (3rd place).

The cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 were awarded to the winners and the 1st and 2nd place winners received their Certificate of Achievement Awards from Mr Cortez Stallings Jr. who represented the NYC Commissioner of Youth and Community Development, Ms Jeanine Mullgrav. He commended the organizers especially Ms Olutosin Mustapha, Mrs Blessing Egwu, Ms Kemi Seriki and Cathy O. for their ability to bring families together and celebrating with the communities to make NYC, a great city for youth and families. There were inspirational speeches by Honorable Hector Rodgriguez, the Second Secretary of Cuba to the United Nations, Mr Anthony Loum, the director of Adult programs of Brooklyn Public Library, Mr Bola Ameen, supervisor at NYC Administration for Children`s Services, Mr Michael Adeniyi, the president of Organization for Advancement of Nigerians and also chairman of Parent Advisory Board of his son`s school Cardinal Hayes High School in New York, Mr Frances James, the chief financial officer of United Teletech Financials, Mr Hakeem Fasinro, an IT consultant with Peqout Capital Management in Manhattan , Prince Ade Odoffin, CEO of Jess Center and Mr Hamza Kadiri who is a distinguished teacher of Mathematics and Information Technology specialist in NYC public schools.
Entertainment was provided by Cathy O. She sang some beautiful songs from her popular CD, Dare To Be. The CD can be bought at www.cdbaby.com/cathyO. Ms Kemi Sekiri told an interesting life-affirming folk tale of the three men and one without trousers who was the happiest because he had life. Mrs Blessing Egwu of NYC Administration for Children`s Service who is also a distinguished member of International Society of Poets, Washington DC read her poems and also introduced her award winning book to the families, A Taste of the African Table which can be bought at Barnesand Noble and other leading bookstores in NYC.
