African Film Festival Opening With Screening of Critical Assignment, April 3, 2004

The 11th New York African Film Festival (AFF) opened in New York yesterday April 3, 2004 with the US Premiere of Critical Assignment, an action thriller that carries a humanitarian message on behalf of Africans. Several other African films are billed to be screened during the month long festival. The festival will also feature panel discussions and question and answer sessions.

FOUNDER: Mahen Bonetti, founder and Executive Director of of African Film Festival Inc., New York

Q & A SESSION: Makers of the film (Critical Assignment) and some of the Actors take questions from the audience.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  the opening day started with screening of "The legend of Sky Kingdom" and ended with the screening and USA premier of the film, "Critical Assignment," a thriller that packed both entertainment and humanitarian message. After the screening, there was a question and answer session as the audience took on the Film makers and actors one on one. At the end of the Question and answer session, attendees and dignitaries moved to the 10th floor of the Lincoln Plaza where they were treated an after party. This afforded the attendees the film makers more time to interact. There was enough drink and food to go round after which the DJ took over as the attendees danced away all night.

The festival will continue to run according to the following schedule: Walter Reade Theater, April 3-15, and at Bam Cinematek, Bam Rose Cinemas April 23-25. Other Festival highlightsinclude: “Loving, Living & Fighting ... Niaja Style,” "Ten Years of South African Democracy," “Let’s Talk About Sex,” "The Legend of The Sky Kingdom," late Lionel Nkagane’s "Jemima & Johnny," and Kwaw Ansah’s "Love Brewed in an African Pot."
