ABOUT
THE EVENT:
Africa-America Institute’s 21st Annual Awards Dinner was held at the Madarin
Oriental in Columbus Circle New York.
The AAI Award for African National Achievement was presented to President Paul Kagame, on behalf of the People of Rwanda. In just 10 years, the Rwandan people have moved from genocide and anarchy toward peace and economic viability; progressed toward democratization and good governance; strengthened private enterprise and entrepreneurship; and made great strides in the field of education.
AAI President Mora Mclean reminded the world at the dinner to continue to acknowledge and build on this extraordinary progress that gives cause for optimism about the future of the African continent.
Also honored with the AAI Excellence in Media Award was Dele Olojede former foreign editor, Newsday & 2005 Pulitzer Prize Winner. Others were Betty Bigombe of The World Bank Uganda, Jonathan Lifa of Chevron Corporation & Roger Wilkins of George Mason University
The evening was hosted by CNN Johannesburg Bureau Chief Charlene Hunter-Gault.
