New
York: The 2009 African Diaspora Film Festival was recently
concluded in New York. Among some of the prime feature programs of the
festival was the Africa Channel Gala Night screening featuring leading
Nigerian Director - Tunde Kelani and two feature films: THE SOUL
OF ASHANTI and ARUGBA at the Anthology Film Archives. It also featured
a question and answer session with Tunde Kelani. Arugba is Kelani's
latest feature and a US Premiere. Our staff was
at the event in New York to bring you exclusive photo-coverage.

N'Daw-Spech (ADFF Co-Director), and film Director Tunde Kelani after the
screening of the film Arugba.
HOW
IT HAPPENED: The event
which was held at the Anthology Film Archives started with the arrival of
attendees (many African film enthusiasts) from Africans in Diaspora to
people of other background in America. Some attendees who earlier
attended the screening of Tunde Kelani's other film "Thunderbolt" simply
waited to enjoy the screening of THE SOUL OF ASHANTI and ARUGBA. Arugba
is Kelani's latest feature and a US Premiere. It took on a cultural
topic like most other films by Tunde Kelani. It was subtitled in
English. The screening program also featured a question and answer
session with Tunde Kelani (flanked by Bukola, the lead actress of
Arugba), which started and ended in time for the Africa Gala to complete
with some food and drinks served at the Bowery bar. Among some other
filmmakers in attendance were Felix Nnorom and Oliver O. Mbamara who are
presently working on concluding a
TV Comedy
Drama series titled CULTURES, featuring such veteran actors and
comedians as Chief Chika Okpala (AKA: Chief Zebrudaya, alias 4:30). Mr.
Ora Melue of "Money Palava" was also in attendance. In all, it was a
good night for African films and culture. Thanks to the Co-Directors
Reinaldo Barroso-Spech and Diarah N'Daw-Spech. |
