Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia: The First Addis Ababa International Film Festival 2007
(titled "Just and Sustainable Future") organized by the Initiative Africa
organization was recently held in Addis Ababa, Ethipia. The festival
which was hosted at various venues including the Addis Ababa City
Hall, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Indigo Lounge all in
Ethiopia was widely attended by filmmakers from around the world.

Filmmakers

REPORT:
The festival featured an array of films from across the world with
African films dominating the collection. Some of the films that featured
at the festival include the following: conversations on a Sunday
afternoon by Khalo Matabane, Darwin's Nightmare by Hubert Sauper,
Sisters In Law by Florence Ayisis & Kim Longinotto, and Tarifa
Traffic by Yoakim Demmer, among others. The festival commenced on January
5 and ended on January 15 with press conference/party, and closing
ceremonies at the Indigo Lounge. Despite the inaugural success of the
festival, officials of Initiative Africa, the organizers of the festival
promised to improve in their effort to make the festival a renowned one
not only in Africa but in international film circles.
